Preeclampsia is a condition of high blood pressure during pregnancy. Your blood pressure goes up, you retain water, and protein is found in your urine.
Preeclampsia is a serious cardiovascular complication in pregnancy which is associated with an increased future metabolic and cardiovascular risk for mother and newborn (Stepan 2011).
Who is at risk?
*A first time mom
*Women whose sisters and mothers had preeclampsia
*Women who are carrying multiple babies
*African-american women
*Teenage mothers
*Women who are carrying twins
*Mothers over 40
*Women who had high blood pressure
*Women who had kidney disease prior to pregnancy
*Obesity
*Past history of diabetes
